Born in the former USSR and raised a proud citizen of Chicago, Julia Alekseyeva is an academic and author-illustrator of Soviet Daughter: A Graphic Revolution. She is receiving a PhD in Comparative Literature from Harvard this Fall, and researches avant-garde documentary practices in France, Japan, and the former Soviet Union. She currently teaches Cinema Studies courses at Brooklyn College. Her writing and comics have been featured in Lilith, Paper Brigade, Brooklyn Rail, the Rumpus, and Tablet. She has lived in Kiev, Chicago, New York City, Paris, Cambridge, Kanazawa, and Yokohama, and currently lives in Brooklyn with her partner Brandon and a dog named Leopold Bloom.
