Naomi Extra is a poet, writer, and doctoral candidate in American Studies at Rutgers University-Newark. In both her creative and scholarly work she explores the themes of agency and pleasure in the lives of black women and girls. She has received fellowships from Cave Canem, Imagining America, and the African American Intellectual History Society. Her writing has been published or is forthcoming in Lenny, Lit Hub, The BreakBeat Poets Vol. 2: Black Girl Magic, The Rumpus, Shondaland and elsewhere. Currently, she is at work on her first book length project, a collection on poems on black girlhood and sexual discovery.
